John Powell
Founder
With years of experience in lice removal and family care, John is the heart of The Lice Place Birmingham. After [personal story, e.g., “experiencing lice issues in his own family”], he was determined to create a service that would make lice removal easier for others. His dedication to natural, safe treatments has made him the preeminent leader and expert in the field of effective lice removal.
I owned my own insurance agency for 22 years and wanted to do something different, fun and that I could help others. The was a franchise show at the BJCC and I guess I was staring at The Lice Place sign. Penny Warner, there RN who started The Lice Place in Texas said you must have a lice story. My stepdaughter got lice when she was in kindergarten and took 3-4 weeks to completely get rid of them. Unfortunately, she got them again in 1st grade. I remember coming home and my wife and step-daughter were sitting on the couch crying because they knew the time and effort it was going to take to get rid of them. She was finally completely lice free in about 5-6 weeks. Penny told me if we would have come to The Lice Place, we would have been lice free the same day with a 30-day guarantee and 90 days of free head checks. I had never heard of a lice treatment clinic before, but I knew that if my meticulous wife had such a hard time getting rid of them, then other families must be having the same issues. We opened our Clinic on April 8th, 2013, and are still doing something different, having fun and helping families. We have now completed over 38,000 head checks and treatments.

I am John’s wife who encouraged him to pursue this unusual opportunity almost 12 years ago. I would have loved for this service to have been available when my daughter had lice 20 years ago. I spent a countless number of hours to get her lice free on two separate occasions. I used the over-the-counter treatments which made her physically sick. I also did the home remedies…. baby oil and Vaseline which was such a complete mess. My daughter has thick and curly hair, and it took quite some time for her hair to recover from the all the damage that was with of the treatments. When John came home with the idea of opening a lice treatment clinic, I was skeptical of the treatment process. I could not believe that the treatment only took on average 1.5 hours to be lice free. I was excited to learn about the possibility of being able to offer this service to our community. Over these years, it has been a rewarding experience to be able to help families become lice free. Because we have had a personal experience in dealing with lice with my daughter it gave us perspective when assisting our clients. Peace of mind is a wonderful thing, and I am so glad we can offer that to families.
